Chasing Sunlight in Bordeaux: A Drone Adventure at Château de Pic
On a recent trip to Bordeaux to visit friends, I carved out one perfect day for a little solo adventure. The forecast had promised sunshine—and in a region known for its vineyards and romantic countryside, I couldn’t let it go to waste. I rented a car right after arriving and set off into the hills, on a mission to find a beautiful château to film with my drone.
As I drove through the peaceful backroads of the Bordeaux countryside, I passed several stunning estates, but I hesitated to stop. I didn’t want to disturb anyone or fly too close without permission. The sun began to dip lower in the sky, and I realized the window for filming was closing. Then, just as golden hour arrived, I stumbled across Château de Pic—a picturesque estate sitting quietly among the vines. It was now or never.
I parked, took a deep breath, and launched my DJI Mini 4 Pro. With the late afternoon light bathing everything in a warm glow, I flew around the château from every angle I could, capturing sweeping orbits, low passes, vertical reveals, and smooth pans that brought out the property’s timeless charm. I used every cinematic drone technique I’ve learned so far, pushing myself to make the most of the light and location.
Back in the editing room, I tried something new: I experimented with speed variations—slowing down some shots for drama, speeding others up to build momentum. The result? A video that feels rich, dynamic, and epic, just like the experience itself. It was one of those moments where everything aligned: timing, location, light, and creativity.
This spontaneous road trip turned into one of the highlights of my visit to Bordeaux, and I’m thrilled to share the final video. If you ever find yourself in this region of France, don’t hesitate to get lost in the countryside—you never know what magic you’ll stumble upon.
